Visiting Sydney, Australia, and Colombia with artist SAndy
The Sydney, Australia, artist known as SAndy is the host of this week's Weekly Drawing Event on Wetcanvas.com.
My digital watercolor sketch above is of Manly Beach, a popular beach in Sydney, Australia. The artwork that follows is based on the reference material provided by SAndy and a couple of other sources, and continues below and on the next page of this blog.
For those of us saving money this summer and having a "stay-cation," SAndy is taking us on a virtual trip to Sydney, Australia and Colombia, South America.

Guatavita Lagoon, Colombia
According to legend this is the real El Dorado, where a native chief covered himself in gold dust and washed himself in the lagoon when he offered his prayers to the Gods. This was a way of hiding gold from Spanish conquerors.

SAndy doesn't know the name of this flower. A gold star goes to anyone who can identify it.
Ducks Close to Home
SAndy says these ducks are on Woronora River, very near to where she lives in Sydney, Australia.
Corrales Boyaca Night Church
Sydney, Australia, artist SAndy says this is a church in a little town called Corrales Boyaca in Colombia. "In December the whole town is lighted up and looks like a minature live re-enactment of where Baby Jesus was born," she writes.
Balcony Serenade
Sydney, Australia, artist SAndy says this is a typical balcony in Cartagena, Colombia, used especially when the women where being serenaded by their lovers. It's also an architectural element brought to South American by Spanish invaders...uh, settlers.
